Recipe for lulz:
- Sell protection from Hulkageddon/similar gankfest
- Have partners sell similar but separate protection
- Gullible miners buy protection from one person, can't afford to buy from others
- Find gullible miner, honor agreement. Give away location to partners.
- Partners gank miner. Tears ensue.
- ???

That last one is a fill-in-the-blank.
P.S. Miners who buy this are just encouraging further gankfests and helping to fund their efforts. But hey, I guess when you're getting chased by a bear all that matters is running faster than the other guy. |

Miners don't want to move. It means scouting new belts, making new entry bookmarks, moving equipment, possibly grinding standings with another NPC (if you refine on-site) and so on. When an op settles on one system it's more or less established for the long haul. For ice it's even more of a hassle. High-sec ice belts are far less common than ore belts.
And for pirates... every minute spent babysitting a miner is one minute not spent ganking pilots who don't pay up. To put a business spin on it, "opportunity cost". |
